| What
is the key to sustaining a career in the music industry
for as long as you have? |
Hmm.
Let's see. I've been around for some 15 years as
a musician and a singer. It was the right choice
at the right time and I've always had the support
of people that are closely involved in my career.
|
| |
| You
were one of the first to diversify into film, TV
and endorsements. Why was that important to you?
|
| I
don't think that there is anybody out there that
would pass up an opportunity to work in films or
TV ads. I got the chance and I took it. It's important
to me because it creates more opportunities to prove
your self even further in this competitive industry.
|
| |
| What
can we expect next from your acting career? |
| I
guess some time in the near future I am expecting
Banana Brothers to release and then I am working
on another Punjabi film with a very talented well-known
star cast. It's a surprise until I can go public
with an official announcement. The film will also
feature a few songs that I will sing. |
| |
| Is
there a specific concept for the new album? |
| There
usually isn't a particular concept, but we do try
and cover all ages and yes, we do try and put in
various Punjabi flavors like folk, pop and bhangra. |
| |
| How
has the music industry changed since you first got
into the game ten/fifteen years ago? |
| Well,
fifteen years ago you couldn't really record an
album unless you had the talent to back it up and
go through many auditions. Now anyone can pretty
much spend money, record an album, shoot a video
and put it on a platter for some music label to
release and sit there hoping to become a star, without
having to know what the real deal is. One hit wonders. |
| |
| What's
your main concern as an artist today? |
| Piracy
and more Piracy …it's really hurting the music
industry globally. It's hard to handle when anyone
out there just puts your music on the Internet or
MP3 without even asking permission from the artist.
It's going too far. |
| |
| You
have worked with many artists in the past. Who do
you look forward to working with in the future? |
| Well,
just recently I composed a song for a Hollywood
film called, Shut Up And Shoot, directed by Silvio
Pollio. We re-did the song with Ralph Rickermann
from the famous rock band Scorpions. I hope to do
more of that in the future |
| |
| Most
children live in a world of vivid fantasy, which
they seem to lose as they grow up. What or who allowed
you to preserve your imagination? |
| There
are certain things that I remember in my life that
make me achieve my goals. Once I was asked in front
of my entire class on career day what I wanted to
be and I firmly said a commercial pilot. The entire
class laughed at me. Four years after that I was
a full fledge flight instructor. Two things I wanted
to do in life and really enjoy are singing and flying |
| |
| How
do like to spend your free time? |
| I
like to sleep in. …spend time with my family
…play video games and of course, I like to
go to the gym …. |
| |
| What
puts a smile on your face? |
| My
two boys. |
| |
| What
do you enjoy the most about your work? |
| Being
able to do what I want, when I want, and however
I want without having some one ask me the why's
and what's. |
| |
| What
historical person do you most admire--and why? |
| Guru
Gobind Singh Ji…because he gave up everything
for us. |
| |
| What's
the one message you want to leave for young Canadians? |
|
Hey, I will say that live life day by day …if
you work hard and apply yourself, there is nothing
that you can't achieve. MeraDesh |
